Science Experiments for VBS

We use simple science experiments in VBS.  For example, we made catapults instead of sling shots for David and Goliath.  Children’s Ministry suggests using fingerprints to illustrate Psalm 139: 13.  Creative Kidswork has several ideas, including using reactive putty to demonstrate how God wipes away sin.  Here is Moses Parting the Red Sea with pepper.  Make Waves in a Bottle to go along with Jesus Calming the Stormy Sea.  Here is the lesson centered in Jesus’ miracle turning Water into Wine.  You can use sodium carbonate and phenolphthlein for the same demo.  During VBS, the science experiments are a great tool at the opening ceremony or during the faith lesson.  Put on a little show.

Face the Cookie

I was having a chat with a friend by Zoom when she mentioned the game,  Face the Cookie, she used for Cousins Day.  Her little nephew thought he and the cookie were having a moment face to face, as if he were interrogating the cookie.  Wouldn’t this be a great way to introduce temptation?  Start with a little skit about facing off with temptation in the form of a delicious cookie.  Explain temptation is always attractive!  Otherwise it wouldn’t be temptation!  Then cap off with a quick round of the Minute to Win It game.  They’ll remember this lesson.

VBS: Cup Sing Changed to Song of St Francis by nuns

Watch and learn this Cup Song Changed.  Watch the video of nuns doing the Cup Song to the tune of St. Francis.  This is a great idea for VBS.
